At Gracious Street, we’re thinking more and more about God’s creation and the state of the ecosystem that sustains us all; and in line with this thinking we have been awarded the Eco Church Bronze Award by A Rocha UK.
Many of us who attend Gracious Street, and especially our young people, are very concerned about climate change and the threat that it presents to us.
We’ve decided that we will devote one week every May to thinking, praying and discussing creation, environmental issues and what our church response should be.
We’ve installed bike racks, reduced SUPs, and put up bird and bat boxes.
Our most recent work has been to reduce our church carbon footprint through the installation of 91 solar panels and batteries to store the power that they generate. Not only should this make us almost self-sufficient in electricity, we should also be able to offer any excess to our local community at low rates, to be generous and giving.
We know that we need to do more, and we will continue to consider what our next steps will be. We will look at making a submission to be an Eco Church Silver standard.
Looking after God’s creation is a key part of “Your Church for Your Whole Week”.
